Gay Marriage

David Blankenhorn's article in today's paper trots out the tired old argument that marriage is for the sake of children. That he introduces himself as a liberal democrat makes him a wolf in sheep's clothing. He proposes that allowing same sex couples to marry somehow undermines the institution. I say, "how?" There are already same sex marriages and it's an easy chore to say that the inclusion of same sex couples into the arrangement hasn't increased the divorce rate one iota (except among gay people.) That he should put forth an argument without even attempting to submit any proof of it makes him an ideolog. He says that 'opposite sex only' marriage must be protected in order to save the children born of them. What? If you follow that argument for even one step you have to come to the conclusion that any marriage without children is somehow decaying the marriages that do. Surely that's not the case? Many seniors have second and third marriages past their child bearing years without harming their grandchildren in any way. Should these marriages be annulled?
I know that you are scraping the barrel to fill monday's sheets but you can't just throw anything in there. If you are going to argue a point than by all means put forth an argument. Why don't you consider the kids of same sex marriages? Why can't they have the legitimacy of having two parents in a legally binding contract recognized by the state? Who's sticking up for them?
Look, the only reason crackpots like him are given any box to stand upon is as a distraction from the real issues. Right now the US government, our government, is killing people for oil in the middle east. As I type this, the parties are agreeing on the best way to pillage the American tax payer. They can't even say exactly what it's for. Like WMD's the "protection from financial collapse" is the ephemeral pot at the end of the rainbow. They've just decided that they don't need a war to rip off the people, they can go right to the source. Why not just take the cookies right from the jar, who needs mommy?
Gay rights, immigration, abortion, all these things are red hankerchiefs to keep our eyes focused away from Washington while the rich get richer and richer and richer. They don't factor one bit into what is really happening in the world. In some contries in Africa, the richest continent in natural resources, up to half the poplulation is dying of AIDS. We have the cure! Did you know that once a person's viral load is controlled with a combination of medicines put into just one pill, once a day that they can no longer pass on the disease? So if you give everyone who has HIV the pills, AIDS is gone in just one generation! Print that.
AIDS, global warming, famine, poverty, and war are the real issues of the day. But we are too complacent and fed a diet of pap made from illegal immigration, gay rights, and abortion activists. Wake up! Rome is burning!
